Testing out Materials and Techniques on Metal

I started off with an old washing machine panel provided by Elli's Dad. First I sanded off all the paint that was on there, then put down a few layers of primer.
I then masked off the white stripes and put a layer of Brite Blue Createx paint using a paasche airbrush. A littlee bit of bleeding occurred under the masking, but was easily cleaned up after adding a layer of white one shot on top of it using mack pin striping brushes to keep a clean and straight line.
I then put down a layer of Sticky Mickey's masking tape and added black. At this point, the low air pressure from the compressor I was using would take it forever to cover, and it would be difficult to achieve a flat coverage where I needed it, so I used black spray paint instead since this was just a test.
Then I added some hi lights and shadows to the skull to give it some dimension. Normally I would have used a transparent base with a little white or black createx through the airbrush, but given the compressor issues I used a brush. It gives it a different look, but I like it. The drips in what will be the banners will be cleaned up as well, but honestly I kind of like them. I might see if I can somehow incorporate it while still making it looked finished.
So far I'd say it's about half-way done. Given my current constraints I'd say it's coming along pretty well, and I'm interested to see how these different kind of paints interact with each other.

Knoxville

Friday Elli and I got off from work and wanted to go out. After being pretty unenthused by the movies that were playing, we looked to see what else was going on downtown. Turns out there was a UT Staff exhibition in their gallery space downtown. We saw some very impressive work.
Eric Cagley's work was probably my personal fav. He collaged thick pieces of cut acrylic to create some incredibly interesting and dimensional compositions.

Turns out it was a whole gallery crawl. We wandered around a bit looking at the art and stumbled into a live jazz show. There was a free couch right up near the front and we got to sit and enjoy the music for a while. There were multiple galleries open with some really interesting people. Unfortunately time didn't allow us to see it all. Guess we will have to go back!

Hello Dolly

Now that I've moved to Knoxville, I've started working for Kaman's again, this time at Dollywood. So far the experience has been great. I've worked three days doing caricatures and two days doing airbrush. My grandparents and parents came down from London while I was working Sunday, and got caricatures done which was a lot of fun.

It had been a while since I had used an airbrush, but thanks to some good training I'm quickly getting back in the groove.

Warm up loops done at the beginning of each day

It's been very refreshing being in a new place and meeting new people. Thank you so much to everyone that has helped out with the move to Knoxville. Elli and I couldn't have done it alone.
